Convert between UTC and local time
UTC in, local out, or the other way round — with the offset that applied on that date, which is not always the one that applies today.
Questions people ask
The things that come up about utc converters, answered plainly.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time — the reference every other zone is expressed as an offset from. It has no daylight saving, which is what makes it the right thing to log and store in.
Is UTC the same as GMT?
For everyday purposes, yes: they never differ by more than 0.9 seconds. Formally, GMT is a time zone based on the sun at Greenwich and UTC is an atomic time scale steered to match it. Britain uses GMT in winter and BST in summer, so 'GMT' on a UK clock is not always UTC.
