Payroll Hours Calculator

Turn a week of shifts into payroll hours

A week of start and finish times, rounded by whichever rule your payroll uses, split into regular and overtime, and priced at an hourly rate.

How this is worked out

  • Gross pay only — this knows nothing about tax, deductions or benefits, and is a check on the hours rather than a payslip.

Questions people ask

The things that come up about payroll hours calculators, answered plainly.

What is the 7-minute rule?

The US quarter-hour rounding convention: time is rounded to the nearest 15 minutes, so anything up to 7 minutes rounds down and 8 or more rounds up. It is lawful under the FLSA only because it is neutral over time — always rounding down is not.

How is overtime calculated?

By the rule you pick. Federal FLSA pays time and a half past 40 hours in a week; California adds daily overtime past 8 hours and double time past 12. The page applies daily thresholds first, then the weekly one, so no hour is counted twice.
