How long a break am I entitled to?
In the UK, an uninterrupted 20 minutes when the day exceeds six hours. In California, an unpaid 30-minute meal period past five hours and a second past ten. The EU directive requires a break past six hours but leaves the length to member states.
Is my lunch break paid?
Generally not, if it is a genuine break of 30 minutes or more during which you are free of duties. Short rest breaks usually are. This is a guide to the arithmetic, not to your contract.
