- Positions come from the standard low-precision solar formulae, good to about a minute at temperate latitudes.
- Above the Arctic and below the Antarctic circles the event may not happen at all; the page says polar day or polar night rather than showing nothing.

What counts as sunrise?
The moment the upper edge of the sun's disc first appears above a sea-level horizon — a solar altitude of -0.833°, which allows for the sun's own radius and for atmospheric refraction bending the image up by about half a degree.
Why does the answer differ from my weather app by a minute or two?
Altitude and terrain. These figures assume a flat sea-level horizon; standing 150 m up brings sunrise about a minute earlier, and a hill to the east pushes it later by however long the sun takes to clear it.
Why does sunrise keep getting later after the winter solstice?
Because solar noon drifts. The shortest day is in December but the latest sunrise is in early January, since the equation of time is still pushing noon later — the same effect that makes the earliest sunset come before the solstice.
